Welcome to the Web Site of the Greater Towson Council of
Community Associations

Who we are

The Greater Towson Council of Community Associations (GTCCA) is a nonprofit
umbrella organization representing the interests and concerns of more than thirty
community associations in the Greater Towson area.  We are organized for the purpose
of education, assistance in development, and as a means of presenting a united front on
common issues or problems too large or too complex to be handled effectively by
individual community associations.
When we meet

Monthly business meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month (except July and
December) at 7:30 p.m. at the Sheppard Pratt Health System Conference Center, 6501
North Charles Street, Towson, Maryland 21204.  For possible cancellation, check the
Baltimore County Schools website at
www.bcps.org.  If the schools are closed, so are
we. For a Printable map, click
here and look for Building # 2.  The next business meeting
will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2008.  If you believe that your Neighborhood
Association in the Greater Towson area may not be represented, please contact
Ken
Buchanan, GTCCA Secretary, to determine if your community association is a member.

In Memoriam

We are sorry to report the passing of Wally North, our friend
and long-time web host, on April 1, 2008.
What's New?

  • More than 500 community volunteers and TU students participated in the second
Towson Clean-Up Day on Saturday, April 19!  Volunteers completed numerous
clean-up projects throughout the Towson core and several communities
    throughout the Towson area.

  • Saturday Farmers Markets are coming!  The overwhelming response from
Towson communities has encouraged the Towson Chamber of Commerce to
add a Saturday morning Farmers Market beginning on June 14, 2008.  This will be
a trial run for four weeks to see if there is sufficient interest - so mark your
calendars and plan on coming to the Saturday Farmers Market.

  • Towson's elementary schools are seriously overcrowded.  Learn more about what
you can do to address the overcrowding issue by visiting www.
    towsonfamiliesunited.com.

  • The GTCCA Community Relations Committee continues to work on strategies to
cap enrollment until TU provides on-campus housing for 40% of its students.  For
more information about the committee's recommendations, go to the Committees
    page.

  • Several bills of concern to GTCCA member communities were considered by the
state legislature during the legislative session that ended April 7.  Go to the
    Legislative page to learn more.

  • The 2008 County Comprehensive Zoning Map Process (CZMP) is underway.  Go
to the Zoning page to see GTCCA's positions on the various zoning changes
    being considered in our communities.
Wally was born and raised in Catonsville, MD.  He
married his classmate, the former Betty Lee Gorsuch,
in 1955.  In 1976, they moved to The Ridgely
Condominium in Towson.  After a career as an
engineer, Wally retired in 1996 from the State of
Maryland Department of General Services, Office of
Engineering and Construction.  He was a member of
    numerous professional engineering associations and
    community organizations, including The Ridgely
Condominium Association and the Greater Towson
    Council of Community Associations.

Wally was a strong advocate for the Towson
community and was instrumental in successful fights
against a McDonald's adjacent to The Ridgely, and TU
student housing at the Towson Circle site.
Wally created and maintained the GTCCA's first web site and enjoyed working on his
computers and with his toy trains.  He was a warm-hearted and friendly gentleman with
a wonderful sense of humor.  Towson owes him a large debt of gratitude.  We will miss
you Wally!
